I have aimed the guide at groundsmen of grassroots facilities, often working alone and often as volunteers. This industry is unusual, if not unique, in requiring so many people to give their time for little or no reward, other than the satisfaction of producing the best surfaces they can.

I hope to be able to pass on some technical knowledge as well as practical tips to help the grassroots groundsman to know how, when and why we do the things we do.
